The health of nature and the health of humans is inextricably linked; the COVID pandemic is just the latest in a string of events that has highlighted this. The European Green Deal aims to protect, conserve and enhance the EU's natural capital, and protect the health and well-being of citizens from environment-related risks and impacts. The cornerstone to achieving this will be the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030 which calls on cities to develop Urban Greening Plans (UGP). But what should these include, who should they involve, and how should cities develop them?

Planning for nature in our post-COVID cities

What lessons can be drawn from the ongoing pandemic? We’ve seen increased attention on accessible green and blue spaces, and discussion surrounding our encroachment on nature, but how can we take this forward to plan for healthier, thriving cities? Join our panel discussion as we hear from experts in the field.

Strategies for boosting nature: what’s the focus?

We will explore some nature-focused plans from different cities, each with a different focus. From zooming in on measures to protect biodiversity through boosting specific species populations to collaborating with your neighbours to create regional green infrastructure, we’ll discuss the differing actions to protect and enhance nature in cities across Europe.

What about these urban greening plans?

Bringing the discussion back to hand, we’ll discuss what the proposed Urban Greening Plans should achieve. Who should be involved in their development and implementation? Let’s gather ideas to understand better what we need from these plans and how we can achieve it.

CALLING ALL CITIES

Have you got a biodiversity or nature action plan? Please complete the short below template and send it to Heather Brooks (heather.brooks@eurocities.eu). These will be shared with the working group to facilitate our learning!
